In the fourth day of Sussex’s tie against Leicestershire, Smith caught the ball in the second slip with a terrific one-handed strike and removed Rehan Ahmed for 9 points in the second inning.
Smith scored 3 (14) points in his only game against Leicestershire, trapping LBW seamer Vian Mulder with a serve that slipped past the inside edge of the player’s right hand.
The match ended in a draw after Rishi Patel (100) and Vian Mulder (102 not out) prevented Sussex from breaking away.
Smith signed a three-match contract with Sussex to prepare for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India and then a five-match Ashes series.
Playing No. 1, Sussex, backed by Tom Alsop (182), Cheteshwar Pujara (77) and JM Coles (70), scored 430 first serve points.
