Shubman Gill has tested positive for dengue and will not be available for Sunday’s opening World Cup match against Australia

Gill had a great win over New Zealand earlier this year. With the exception of a slight slump during the West Indies tour, he has shown incredible consistency. He was the top scorer in the Indian Premier League with 890 and topped the hit parade in the recent Asia Cup with 302. He has scored 104, 74, 27*, 121, 19, 58 and 67* in the last few innings.

Ahead of the World Cup, the Indian team was in a state of uncertainty as several of its top stars were returning to action after injuries. Jasprit Bamrakh, K.L. Rahul and Shreyas Iyer returned to the team after a long break. Even during the Asia Cup, spinner Axar Patel was injured and he was replaced by Ravichandran Ashwin in the squad for the World Cup.
