It is unfair to compare Shubman Gill to Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli: Gary Kirsten

Kirsten said that Gill is a multi-format player and that he has the skills to become one of the best players in the world.

He is a young player who has incredible skill and determination to become one of the best players in the world. It would be unfair to compare him to Sachin and Virat so early in his journey, Kirsten told Cricbuzz.

Gill had a brilliant IPL 2023 season. The GT opener, who finished the final with the Most Valuable Player title, is 973 runs behind Virat Kohli, scored in 2016.

I believe he has the game to play successfully in all three formats for India. You don’t see that very often these days, especially with T20 cricket developing and progressing so quickly, Kirsten said.

Asked what he expects from the young batter ahead of the World Test championship against Australia, Kirsten said: Shubman has all the makings to be a great player for India in all formats. Like any player, he will face challenges and obstacles; how he handles them and continues to progress will ultimately determine his long-term success. I would advise him to continue to learn and communicate with those who can give him sound advice.
