‘I think he has something to prove because…’: Sunil Gavaskar on Ajinkya Rahane in WTC Finals

Earlier this year, Rahane performed brilliantly on the domestic scene. The right-handed batter also played a phenomenal IPL 2023 match and was part of the winning Chennai Super Kings team.

Speaking about this, the batting legend said that he believes Rahane still has a lot of cricket in store and has something to prove before the WTC finals.

He has a lot of experience, he has played in England, scored in England. So, yes, I think he will play a crucial role at No. 5. And yes, I believe he has something to prove, I still believe he has a lot of cricket ahead of him and this is a great opportunity for him, Gavaskar said on Follow the Blues on Star Sports.

I hope he can take this opportunity with all the experience he has and regain his place on the Indian team, he added.

Gavaskar also believes that since most of the players in the team have just finished playing T20 cricket in the IPL, Team India may be a little unprepared for the WTC finals. Gavaskar believes that with the exception of Cheteshwar Pujara, who played county cricket, the rest will have to adapt to the longest format.

The biggest test will be the fact that almost everyone will come from the T20 format, and Test cricket is the longer format. So I think it’s going to be a big challenge, he said.

They only have Cheteshwar Pujara, who played in the English championship, so he will be the only one who has played in the longer format in these conditions, so it will be a big challenge for them, he added.
