Besides Kohli, skipper Rohit Sharma will play a key role in India’s chances in the WTC finals, the former Australian national team batter said.
It’s hard to look past Virat Kohli. He (Kohli) is clearly returning to great form in all forms of the game, so both he and Rohit Sharma with the bat will be important for India, Hussey told the ICC website.
Kohli is back to his best form and recently scored two hundreds in a row in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore.Kohli has arrived in the UK along with Mohammad Siraj and the team is training at Kent Cricket Ground ahead of the final.
India recently won a home series against Australia, but the WTC final will be a very different game, says Hussey.
The game will be played in England, so English conditions will be different from the recent series in India, so I think fast bowlers will be very important.
Pat Cummins (a key player for Australia) and Josh Hazlewood could be back in form, which would be good for Australia.
But India has a lot of great bowlers too. You have (Mohammed) Siraj and (Mohammed) Shami and of course the spinners with (Ravindra) Jadeja and (Ravichandran) Ashwin. This is a world-class attack, and the Aussies will have to give it their all to beat them.
Hussey did not pick a favorite in this one game. The pressure will be on India, who has yet to win an ICC title since 2013.
I just want to see two great teams face off and see who comes out the winner. We just want to see good, tough, honest cricket, and whoever comes out on top deserves it. And it should be a fantastic match, said Hussey, who is part of the Chennai Super Kings support staff for the IPL team.
