England leaves Anderson and Tonga for third Ashes test, Moin and Wood included in bid

Moin came out of leave to participate in the first test, but the spinner injured his finger and dropped out of the second meeting at Lord’s.

Wood was not selected for the first two tests, and England will welcome his rousing pace, while Woakes’ versatile ability will give the hosts depth in their batting.

Anderson is England’s best wicket-taker in Tests (688), but the 40-year-old has failed to make an impact in the series, scoring just three wickets in the first two matches.

Tong made his Test debut last month against Ireland, where he impressed with five wickets in the second innings, and at Lord’s, where he took five wickets in two innings, he made his Ashes debut.

England lineup: Zach Crowley, Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, Joe Root, Johnny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (captain), Moin Ali, Chris Walks, Mark Wood, Ollie Robinson, Stuart Broad.
