A significant milestone for the sport as Major League Cricket kicks off in the US

All tickets for the first match at the 7,200-seat cricket stadium, with a grass wicket that meets the highest international standards, have already been sold, organizers said.

The six teams are Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, Texas Super Kings and Washington Freedom.Most of the teams are owned by Indian-Americans who are venture capitalists working in information technology and startups.

The inaugural season will follow a round-robin format, with the top four teams competing in a multi-match playoff and final round to determine the champion, which will be announced on July 30, according to a press release.

Based in Seattle, Washington, the Seattle Orcas team is owned by a group of investors including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Soma Somasegar, Samir Bodas, Ashok Krishnamurthy, Sanjay Parthasarathi, and GMR Group.

Los Angeles Knight Riders is based in Los Angeles and is owned by Knight Riders Groups. San Francisco Unicorns is owned by Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan, co-founders of Cambrian ventures.

Texas Super Kings is co-owned by Chennai Super Kings team, Ross Pero Jr. and Anurag Jain, while the Washington Freedom team is owned by Indian-origin American entrepreneur Sanjay Govil. 14it finally happened.
