During a practice session, Ravichandran Ashwin, who replaced Axar Patel in the final squad for the World Cup, was one of the first to go to the net along with Jaspreet Bumrah, Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli, taking shots from head coach Dravid. Apart from batting for about 45 minutes, Ashwin also bowled long overs for Suryakumar Yadav and Kohli and it was seen how he troubled the former with his tricks and variations.
With skipper Rohit stating that the team would like to have squad depth, India intend to use a combination of three spinners and three pacers, with Hardik Pandya also an option. Ashwin and seamer Shardul Thakur, who is good with the bat, are likely to compete for a place in the line-up.
